3 Reasons to own this wine:

- A wine made with ungrafted vines, offering greater authenticity and exuberance.

- It's in excellent form, still vibrant but already polished.

- A wine perfected since the 1998 harvest, an excellent wine for contemplation, for collecting, or to accompany strong meat dishes or spicy oriental cuisine.

Drinking Window: 2022 - 2040

Luis Gutierrez, April 29, 2022:

"I tasted the Pie Franco 2020 during its aging in barrels and was eager to taste the bottled version. The wine comes from ungrafted Monastrell vines, planted in 1942 by the grandfather of the current generation, on a south-facing slope rich in limestone and gravel. In this exceptional vintage, they achieved a wine with 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.47, and almost five grams of tartaric acid per liter.

The wine matured in 500-liter oak barrels for 16 months. There is precision; it's like a laser cut, with symmetry and nuances, and it conveys an ethereal sensation with great inner strength. It has aromatic herbaceous notes, but much more subtle, and the wine is very..." More elegant and floral. The wines of the 2020s are textural, silky, fine, and elegant. This is the essence of the Mediterranean. Truly exceptional, world-class, the best wine produced in the Mediterranean and the best wine from Casa Castillo ever. I tried to find similarities with previous vintages, and it is different from 2017 and 2018, perhaps a blend of the two, but overall the 2020s are unique and have a combination of Mediterranean character and more intense freshness than any previous vintage.

José María Vicente told me that the only vintage that could be compared, even minimally, to 2020 would be 2010. I have seen this wine evolve every year since the initial 1998 vintage until it reached this world-class level. Bravo! 7,800 bottles were bottled in February 2022.
